John Baker, MD
Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Valedictorian of his class and Cum Laude Graduate at the University of Missouri Medical School, John Baker, MD joined the Carrell Clinic in 1986. Dr. Baker was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a graduate of Purdue University, where he received an athletic scholarship and swam competitively on a national level. Like many of the Carrell Clinic physicians, a love of sports led him to seek a career in orthopaedic surgery. Elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society during medical school, he completed a general surgery internship at Parkland Hospital and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. He was then awarded a fellowship in arthroscopy and sports medicine at Hughston Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Complex in Columbus, Georgia.
Board Certified, Dr. Baker is a fellow of the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. In addition to general orthopaedics, Dr. Baker’s special interests include: sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, and shoulder and knee disorders. He served 10 years as Assistant Team Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Dallas Cowboys Football Club and is currently assistant team physician for the Dallas Stars Hockey Team. He is Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for the Southern Methodist University Athletic Department.
Swimming continues to be one of Dr. Baker’s favorite sports, although he and his wife have also become equestrian enthusiasts. He is a supporter of Equest, a therapeutic riding program for handicapped children and adults. Dr. Baker competes statewide and nationally in horse show jumping.
